The Magic of Hoodia and How It Works

We know that hoodia is a safe, natural herb from South Africa that is effectively used suppress your appetite and lose unwanted pounds. But how does the magic of hoodia work?

Hoodia gordonii contains the active ingredient P57 that targets a part of your brain called the hypothalmus. This part of your brain tells you whether you are full or hungry because within the hypothalmus are the nerve cells that sense your blood sugar level. As you eat, food is broken down into glucose in your body and your blood sugar rises to make you feel full. The active ingredient in hoodia is up to 10,000 times more effective than glucose to make you feel full.

Brown Medical School established the link between the hypothalamus and hoodia in a study conducted on group of rats using one group injected with P57 and a control group injected with a placebo. Within 24 hours, the ATP neurotransmitter and cell energy source in hypothalamic neurons increased up to 50 to 150 percent and food intake decreased by 40 to 60 percent in the group of rats injected with P57.

The first clinical study of hoodia on people was done in the UK by Phytopharm in the 1990s. In 1997, Phytopharm was given the patent for P57 by the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. Obese volunteers participated in the study and half were given hoodia while half were given a placebo. After 15 days, the people who took hoodia ate 1000 calories less daily than the people who took the placebo. Natural appetite suppression was achieved without any other effort being made. The potential of hoodia is obviously quite powerful since 3,500 calories equal 1 pound of fat. Without any additional effort, hoodia users can lose up to 2 pounds weekly. When you add exercise and a well-balanced diet, hoodia is the key to successful weight loss.

Although clinical studies of hoodia began in the 1990s, for thousands of years the Sans Bushmen of South Africa used hoodia to quench thirst and as an appetite suppressant while they went on week long hunting trips. By the 1970s, the South African Council for Scientific Research isolated P57, the active ingredient in hoodia. Today hoodia is one of the safest, most effective appetite suppressants on the market with no known side effects.

To achieve the maximum benefit from hoodia gordonii, you need to take the pure form of the herb and not imitations or dilutions. Taking the right dosage is key to success and you may have to adjust your dose within the first few days to achieve the desired results. Because hoodia is harmless, it is safe to engage in this brief period of trial and error to determine the perfect dose for your dietary needs.

Although Hoodia is safe, you should talk to your doctor before using it if you are pregnant, have diabetes, a blot clot disorder, heart problems, anorexia or bullimia.
